Joe Steuter serves as Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications at Carson Group, a $20B financial services firm headquartered in Omaha. In his role, Joe leads strategic communications for the firm’s 350 stakeholders and 138 advisor offices across the U.S. He’s the lead storyteller, serving as the voice for CEO, Ron Carson, spear-heads community relations, manages investor relations, and coaches managers how to better communicate with one another. In addition, he helps influence the external brand, public relations and media relations. Joe has 15 years of marketing, communications and brand consulting experience. Over the past decade, his role has become a driving force behind Carson’s rise as a Barron’s Top 50 RIA and a five-time Inc. 5000 fastest-growing private company. Under his guidance, Carson was named one of the Best Places to Work in Omaha, and his team of four earned three renowned Ragan Employee Communications awards last year. Prior to joining Carson in 2010, Joe worked extensively in real estate and public relations, serving some of Silicon Valley’s most innovative tech companies. Throughout his career, he has had the privilege to collaborate with media brands like CNBC, FOX Business, Forbes, NBCUniversal, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and US News & World Report. Joe graduated from UNO and is an avid writer, award-winning campaign strategist, and fun-loving dad to his two daughters, Jolie and Nella.
Shawn Ilg is an attorney, consultant, business / real estate broker, and serial entrepreneur. His areas of expertise include start-ups, finance, law, real estate, human resources, business sales & purchases, insurance, corporate management, and technology. Ilg’s varied background provides a unique blend of real-world experience and solid guidance that enable his clients to minimize risk and maximize profit. As a successful business advisor, Ilg sees his role as much more than answering questions. He assesses the strengths and weaknesses of each organization and develops insightful ideas that help clients grow and take advantage of the opportunities before them. Shawn earned a finance degree from the University of Nebraska, MBA from Drake University and a law degree from Creighton University. Ilg started his career with Norwest Bank in Minneapolis, and after law school, he became a partner in the law firm of Downing, Alexander, Wood & Ilg. He has started or co-founded over 20 businesses in his career and has helped clients start hundreds over time. The most notable firm was CoSentry, a data center and IT services firm with multiple facilities in the Midwest that he co-founded in the 2000’s. Firms that he has either co-founded or had ownership in are in many different industries including a bourbon brand, many IT firms, a software company, motorcycle dealerships, restaurants, pet services, communications consulting, and many tied to real estate investment or development. As a serial entrepreneur, Ilg can relate to his clients at levels different than most advisors. He will be the first to admit that some of his ventures have gone well (CoSentry sold for over $100 million), and he has “lost his ass” on many others. Because of that fact, Shawn can offer insights and real-world knowledge that is many times difficult to find in general or without costing a fortune. Always active in the community, most of his donated time has been spent over the years with Nebraska Leadership Seminar (NLS), a non-profit group that conducts leadership and entrepreneurial programs for high school students. Shawn has been named National Corporate President of the Year and International Volunteer of the Year for his work with NLS.
Van Deeb is the country’s foremost expert on building relationships and is dedicated to helping others become successful in the sales and service industry. He has inspired tens of thousands of professionals throughout the country to succeed through his motivational and informative keynote speeches, workshops, speaking events, newsletters, and books. Van learned from an early age that if he wanted something, he was going to have to work for it. Growing up, Van was nonconforming, rebellious and had his own agenda. A turning point in his life was making the football team at University of Nebraska-Omaha, after being told he was not “cut out for it.” Making the football team ahead of some of his all-state high school teammates gave Van the mindset that with drive, desire, and determination you can accomplish anything you want in life. That is Van’s main message. After college, Van left his hometown to attend a real estate specialty school in Dallas, Texas and discovered his passion, the real estate business. Over the next 10 years, Van won more than 100 regional and national sales awards as a successful real estate agent in Dallas. Van decided to returnhome to Omaha, Nebraska. Three of the Omaha’s top real estate firms aggressively recruited Van, but he was determined to build his own firm. When he launched DEEB Realty in 1993, Van worked as the sole agent from the basement of his home. In just 15 years, Van grew DEEB Realty to over 350 agents, making it one of the largest independent firms in the United States.
